Hunt and Sail

With Varg Sail Yacht

From USD 3932

Hunt and Sail is a bucket-list adventure combining the thrill of hunting with the freedom of sailing. Varg Sail Yacht ensures that you will be able to reach the most serene areas of Western Norway, accessing hunting grounds and mountainsides that you cannot access by other means of transport.

From the minute you set your foot on the deck your hunting adventure starts, sailing through the beautiful and famous fjords of west-Norway. This is by far the most excotic approach to some of the best hunting grounds for Red deer in Norway. The municipality Kvinnherad is known for having the highest density of red deer in Norway and is also the name for Norrøna’s hunting collection specially developed for active Red Deer hunting on the mountains and fjords of Western Norway.

Highlights

  • Exclusive Access to Remote Hunting Grounds

  • Challenging and Rewarding Red Deer Hunting

  • Scenic Sailing Through Norwegian Fjords

  • Après-Hunt and Onboard Spa

  • Savor gourmet meals crafted from fresh, local ingredients

Despite a very high deer population this is a very demanding hunt, the deer is very shy with extremely sharp senses combined with challenging terrain - the ultimate challenge for any active hunter. As a consequence you should be fairly fit to truly enjoy this hunt and be able to make the most of each situation you will be put into. There are no quota limitations on this hunt, stags, hinds and calves are all included. There is no extra trophy fee if you shoot a stag, regardless of size. This exact hunting trip was tested with two different groups in Fall 2023 on a smaller sailing boat with great success.

You will have a hunting guide onboard the boat and join each hunt in addition to several extra guides that will meet on each terrain to handle the deer and facilitate the hunt and potential drives.

After each day of hunting, relax with après-hunt gatherings by the bonfire on deck. In the evenings, unwind in our onboard spa: enjoy the sauna below deck or soak in the hot tubs above. Feeling brave? Take a refreshing dip in the Arctic ocean between sauna sessions!

A delicious three-course dinner will be served each evening, either inside the cozy cabin or outdoors, depending on the weather.

Meat is not included in the price but can be arranged individually at 110,- NOK pr KG for half or whole deer/animals

Day 2:First day of hunting

Wake up to the fresh morning air, grab a cup of coffee, and step onto the deck, where the steep mountainsides rising from the fjord provide the perfect backdrop for spotting deer. The onboard guide will give a briefing, covering maps, the plan for the first half of the day, and essential safety details. The hunt will then begin, using spot-and-stalk, still hunting, or organized drives—adjusted based on conditions, guest preferences, and the best chances of success. Each day presents new challenges, requiring different tactics as the deer can appear in countless locations. A packed lunch will be enjoyed in the mountains, where we will spend the entire day before returning to the boat about an hour before sunset. After the hunt, we set sail for the next location. As the sun sets, relax on deck with a well-earned drink, taking in some of Norway’s most breathtaking scenery. Dinner is served after sundown.

Day 4:One last hunt

The final day of hunting is slightly shorter, running from 08:00 to around 14:00, allowing ample time to sail back to Osøyro harbor and ensure a smooth transfer to Bergen Airport for afternoon or evening flights. This last hunt takes place in relatively easier terrain—flatter than previous days, though still challenging. Guests also have the option to incorporate dogs into the drive, adding a unique and dynamic element to the experience.

Due to limited space in the car and in the sailboat, we ask that you bring a bag (we recommend a duffel bag, as this is easier to handle than a rolling suitcase in the areas we visit) of clothes, toiletries and items needed when we are away on hikes. We also ask that you bring a daypack for food, water, camera and extra clothes for the various hikes we are going on.
