Day 5:Among big skies and limestone mountains

After a tasty breakfast, we take a quick 25 km bus ride along a paved road that winds through local terraced rice fields. The morning landscape is stunningly beautiful. At the end of the bus ride, we hop on our bikes and cycle through Vietnam's limestone mountain range, enjoying views of the incredible geological formations and misty rice terraces as we tackle steep climbs and enjoy the reward of the refreshing downhills. As we exit the mountain range, the terrain will level out a bit as we pass through minority villages and mountain communities, immersing us in the local culture and fostering interactions with the friendly people in the area. The mountain road passing "Heaven's Gate 1" will be a highlight of the day, offering the famous view over the Tam Son Valley and Twin Hills, which provide some of the most spectacular sights in Vietnam. The mix of challenging up-and-down terrain and relatively flat sections will test your biking skills, but the scenic views and friendly encounters with local hill tribes will make it all worthwhile. Finally, you'll descend into Yen Minh, observing the traditional homes of the communities and taking in the picturesque surroundings before an overnight stay at a guesthouse in this sleepy northern town.

Difficulty & Preparation

This program is designed for intermediate/advanced-level cyclists, with 90% rural mountain roads and small paved village paths, and up to 10% unpaved sections. The tour offers varied cycling, with challenging climbs, steep and winding descents, as well as rugged unpaved sections that, of course, can also be walked. Previous experience with basic trail riding is not necessary to participate in this trip.

We will cycle approximately 30-60 km daily for seven days, covering a total of 324 km along the tour. During the trip, we will have a total elevation gain of 8,000 - 10,000 meters and a corresponding total descent. On this tour, if we’re not climbing up the mountain, we’re flying down it!

This tour is for the tough, it requires good physical fitness and riding stamina.  We recommend that riders prepare with prior training to be in good physical condition, ensuring they get the most out of this trip.

Visa, Vaccines and Health

Before embarking on our journey together, we kindly remind all tour participants to check their respective country's visa status and vaccination requirements. Ensuring your travel documents are in order is a crucial step in guaranteeing a smooth and hassle-free adventure. Passports must be valid for at least 6 months after the date of return.

Always consult with your country's official travel advisory or consulate for the most accurate and current information on entry requirements and health guidelines for your destination.

If you are 67+ years, you should undergo a comprehensive medical check-up before the trip. Inform your doctor that it involves physical exertion.

It is important that you complete all sections of the registration form (especially where we request health and allergy information) and let us know if there is anything we need to be aware of before and during the trip.

Relevant health information that may affect the trip should also be communicated to the guide at the start of the tour. Please note that if you are on regular medications, have known allergies, or similar conditions, you should always have your personal medications with you.

Additional Information

It is important to check our website to see if the departure is guaranteed before booking your round-trip flight to Hanoi. Each departure requires a minimum number of confirmed participants for us to guarantee the trip.

On this tour, we stay in good standard tourist-class hotels with private showers and toilets. Participants share twin rooms, but single rooms can be booked. Front suspension, hardtail mountain bikes are included in the program, but participants can also arrange to bring their own bikes if they wish. Electric mountain bikes are also available upon request.

The first day in Hanoi is reserved for assembling the bikes. After the bike tour, we also have time in Hanoi for participants who have brought their own bikes to disassemble and pack them for the flight home.

On cycling days, all meals—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—are included. It may not always be easy to find gluten-free whole bread, lactose-free options, or to accommodate other dietary needs. Please indicate any allergies on the registration form, and we will try to accommodate them as best as we can. However, we recommend that those with special dietary requirements bring some alternatives, such as a package of biscuits, energy bars, or similar items that you know you can eat.
