Ski Touring Weekend in Lofoten

An unforgettable adventure in Northern Norway

From USD 2605

Four unforgettable days await in one of the world’s most iconic landscapes. Our ski touring weekend in Lofoten is about more than just the descent; it is a perfect blend of world-class ski touring, exceptional local cuisine, and great company.

Highlights

  • One of Norway´s most unique ski touring locations
  • Experienced guide with a strong focus on safety
  • We'll hunt for the best snow and the most amazing experiences
  • Accommodation in traditional fisherman’s cabins at Svinøya Rorbuer, Svolvær
  • Northern Lights! (If we're lucky)

Lofoten offers one of the world’s most spectacular landscapes for skiing, where jagged alpine peaks plunge directly into the Arctic Ocean. This adventure is designed for those who already have experience with ski touring and are looking for varied descents in world-class surroundings. With Svolvær as our base, we have immediate access to a vast wilderness of mountains that demand some technical skill, but reward you with views and lines found nowhere else on earth.

During the trip, we stay at the historic Svinøya Rorbuer in Svolvær, the true gateway to Lofoten. Here, we live on a secluded island in a vibrant fishing village, surrounded by traditional docks, drying racks for cod, and the soothing sound of the sea. Even though we are nestled between the open ocean and dramatic summits, the local life of Svolvær city center is just a short walk across the bridge. Svinøya feels like "Lofoten in miniature" and provides the perfect atmosphere to recharge between long days in the mountains.

To ensure the best possible skiing and maximum safety, our guide selects the daily objectives based on current weather and snow conditions. Potential summits include iconic peaks such as Geitgallien (1084 m), Varden (634 m), Kisteberget (661 m), and Himmeltinden (931 m).

The logistics are handled from the moment you arrive; we meet you at Svolvær Airport and provide transport directly to the heart of Svolvær. Staying at Svinøya Rorbuer offers an authentic base in a historic setting, where you live side-by-side with the local coastal culture. It is the perfect foundation for an unforgettable ski weekend where mountains, fjords, and professional guiding come together for the complete Lofoten experience.

Day 2:First day on the mountain

Enjoy breakfast and prepare your packed lunch before the daily briefing. An assessment trip will then be conducted so that the guide can get to know each and every one of you. The trip may feel challenging, both in terms of vertical meters and distance, but it will be done in mellower terrain, allowing your technique to be tested along the way. This will provide both you and your guide with a good foundation for tomorrow. The day concludes with a three-course dinner.

Day 3:Ski touring in Lofoten

New day, new opportunities. It's time to expand our horizons. Where the trip goes today will depend on several factors: weather forecasts, snow conditions, the group's preferences, the guide's preferences... The only thing that is completely certain is that you will have another amazing day surrounded by the majestic Lofoten mountains. So buckle up your skis and get out there! The day will end the day with a well-deserved meal, this time a three-course dinner.

Activities/trips with some risk. Certain incidents may occur, and they may be of such a nature that they may require professional help.

Training and preperations

In order to participate on this trip, you must have good physical fitness ascending and descending on skis. Ascents can vary depending on the group's ability and snow conditions, but being able to ascend 1,200 - 2,000 meters per day is important when participating on this trip.

It's important to have experience in backcountry skiing, skinning, and to be an able skier in mountain terrain. Avalanche awareness and training are important, as well as the knowledge of how to use avalanche safety equipment, such as a beacon, shovel, and probe. Your guide will have the final risk management decision-making on this trip in order to ensure safe ascents and descents each day. Changes in weather, snow, or road conditions can change the itinerary that is presented in the day-to-day program.

Accommodation and food

We are based at Svinøya Rorbuer in Svolvær, providing easy access to the region’s best ski touring terrain. You will stay in traditional fisherman’s cabins (rorbuer), typically featuring two twin or double bedrooms and two bathrooms per cabin.

If you are traveling solo, we will pair you with a roommate of the same gender. For those preferring extra privacy, single rooms are available upon request for an additional fee of 3,500 NOK.

We start each day with a hearty breakfast to fuel up for the mountains and pack a nutritious lunch to enjoy during the tour. In the evening, we gather for a high-quality dinner, where we focus on great flavors and local ingredients to round off the day’s adventures.

Other information

The easiest way to reach Svolvær is by air. Most travelers fly into major Norwegian hubs like Oslo (OSL) or Bergen (BGO), followed by a connecting flight to Svolvær via Bodø (BOO).

The final leg from Bodø to Svolvær is operated by Widerøe. However, if you are traveling from Oslo or Bergen, you can easily book your entire journey through SAS as a single itinerary. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you need any assistance with your travel arrangements - we are happy to help you find the best route.

We recommend bringing one medium bag with personal items not used when skiing. You must bring your own backcountry ski gear and equipment. We require that you bring a day backpack with a hip belt to use when skiing for safety equipment, food, water, a camera, and layers.
