Exclusive Hidden Gems of Lofoten

Escape the ordinary with Varg Sail Yacht

Exclusive Hidden Gems of Lofoten

Escape the ordinary with Varg Sail Yacht

From USD 5146

Escape the ordinary and claim the Arctic archipelago as your own. This exclusive sailing adventure takes you beyond the well-known routes, revealing secluded beaches, dramatic fjords, and remote anchorages that can only be reached by boat. Designed exclusively for full groups (buyouts), this journey is 100% flexible, allowing us to chase the best weather, the calmest seas, and the most dramatic light across the entirety of Lofoten.

On Varg Sail Yacht, you are more than a guest; you are part of the voyage. Over six days, you have the unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the art of sailing, whether you are a seasoned sailor or a complete novice.

The Highlights

  • Navigate through untouched waters to "secret" white-sand beaches and deep fjords accessible only by keel.
  • Indulge in gourmet meals prepared by our onboard chef using local ingredients—perhaps even the catch of the day from your own line.
  • Experience the thrill of Sea Eagle safaris and watch these majestic birds hunt in the narrow fjords.
  • Choose your own adventure daily—from fishing and sailing in turquoise waters to summiting peaks with panoramic views.
  • Bask under the 24-hour Midnight Sun or find the perfect offshore clearing to witness the Northern Lights (seasonal), far from any light pollution.

A Journey Tailored by the Elements

While the itinerary below offers a glimpse into the magic of Lofoten, the true beauty of a private charter on Varg S/Y is the flexibility. Because this is a full buyout, we don’t follow a rigid path. Instead, we practice "Slow Travel"—traveling at the pace of nature.

Every morning over breakfast, you and your private group will sit down with the Skipper and the Guide to look at the charts and the weather. Want to spend an extra afternoon perfecting your sailing technique? Or perhaps the light is hitting a specific fjord just right for a photo expedition? Maybe go fishing, swimming or something else? We adapt to your wishes.

Below is a sample of how your 6-day immersion into the wild might unfold:

Day 1:Set Sail into the Unknown

Your adventure begins in Kabelvåg as you step aboard Norrøna Varg S/Y and meet your crew. Meeting time is at 4 pm. After a short introduction and safety briefing, we hoist the sails and set course for our first destination. Upon arrival and if time and weather permits, we step ashore for a scenic hike, following trails that lead to breathtaking viewpoints over the wild, untouched landscapes. A 3-course dinner is served onboard, and the evening is spent under the open sky, with only the sound of the sea surrounding us.

Day 2:The Art of Coastal Navigation

Wake up to the smell of fresh coffee and the sound of water lapping against the hull. Today is about finding our rhythm. Based on the wind, we sail deeper into the archipelago. Today is a day to get our sea legs properly going. Join the captain at the navigation table to help plot our course for the day. After plotting the course, the surrounding peaks of Lofoten are tempting us. We look for a hidden trailhead and aim for a guided hike to a panoramic peak if the weather allows.

Day 3:Sea Eagles

Today, we head toward the narrower sounds where the majestic Sea Eagles hunt. With Varg S/Y as our silent observation platform, you will get close to these apex predators. As we observe the magnificent creatures fish, we realize that this must be a great time to do exactly that! Try your hand at some fishing from the sailboat. Maybe tonight's catch will be tonight's dinner? Practice your sail-trimming skills as we catch the afternoon breeze, moving toward tonight's anchoring spot.

Day 4:Hidden White Sand Beaches

We take our sailing further, charting a new course by adapting to the winds. Lofoten holds some secrets, amongst which are Caribbean-style white sand beaches and turquoise waters. Maybe today is the perfect day for a beach day? Luckily, since this is a private buyout, we can choose to stay longer in a spot you love or move on to scout for marine life along the coast.

Day 5:The "Slow Travel"

By day five, you’ll have mastered the basics of Varg S/Y. Today’s sail is about "Slow Travel"—turning off the engines entirely and moving purely by wind power if the wind is with us. Today, should the weather permit, we will select a signature Lofoten ridge hike based on the group's energy levels—ranging from a gentle coastal stroll to a challenging summit with 360-degree views. On our least evening together, we will reflect on the week’s adventures and the moments that defined our trip.

Day 6:Homeward bound

Enjoy a final breakfast on deck as we begin our sail back toward Kabelvåg. This is your chance for one last stint at the helm or to simply relax on the netting and soak in the sea air. We will explore the coastline one last time, perhaps spotting a final eagle or a curious seal, before docking back in port. The journey concludes in the afternoon, leaving you with the skills of a sailor and the memories of Lofoten’s best-kept secrets.

Lofoten can be wet, with steep paths that can often be very muddy and slippery. Be prepared to be challenged if these conditions are new to you, or train for such hikes before the trip begins. Read more about what to expect when hiking in Norway here.

Accommodation and Meals

We stay on a comfortable boat with excellent facilities. Accommodation is in double cabins, with the option to convert the bed into two singles. If you are traveling alone, you will have your own cabin for a single supplement.

There is a private shower and toilet in each cabin. We provide a hearty breakfast, prepare packed lunches for our excursions, and serve delicious 3-course dinners in the evening.

The alcoholic beverages must be purchased on the boat due to the liquor license.
