Norrøna Varg - Ski and Sail

Home for explorers

From USD 5212

Ski and Sail is a bucket-list adventure combining the thrill of skiing with the freedom of sailing. Doing this on Varg S/Y ensures that you will be able to reach the most serene areas of Northern Norway, accessing snow-covered mountainsides that you cannot find anywhere else in the world and that will leave you breathless.

The skiing experience is touring-style, meaning no resorts are involved. Embracing the "earn-your-turns" philosophy, you’ll skin up the mountains to enjoy an unforgettable ski descent. Northern Norway offers a diverse range of terrain, but Ski and Sail is best suited for intermediate to advanced skiers. Some ski touring experience is mandatory and your equipment must be compatible with skinning up and skiing back down.

The sail yacht will serve as your accommodation, restaurant, and means of transportation for the entire trip. While it offers plenty of comfort for an adventure of this kind, it’s important to remember that at 62 feet, it is still a sailboat with limited space so keep in mind how and what you pack.

No prior sailing experience is needed, as the crew will handle all onboard operations and logistics. However, if you’d like to get involved and lend a hand, they’ll be more than delighted to have your assistance!

This adventure is for those who seek to explore remote places unreachable by car, letting the weather and conditions guide the choice of mountains to ski, rather than predetermined routes. It’s perfect for anyone looking to escape the crowds and immerse themselves in a one-of-a-kind skiing experience, constantly on the move to find the best snow and solitude.

Highlights:

  • Experienced and certified guides
  • We reach the best ski areas by boat
  • We hunt for the best snow and the most fantastic experiences
  • We can customize the trip based on snow conditions, weather, and wind
  • Après-ski, sauna, hot tubs

Bookings are per cabin. Each cabin has a double bed that can also be divided into twin beds. The boat has a total of 3 cabins that fits 6 people in total.

Day 2-5:Ski touring time!

The sailboat gives us the freedom to adapt our itinerary to the snow, weather, and wind conditions, ensuring maximum flexibility throughout the trip. Instead of a fixed day-to-day plan, we’ll decide our destinations as we go. With a dinghy (small boat) at our disposal for transfers between the sailboat and shore, we’ll have access to even more remote and pristine locations. Possible locations include the Lyngen Alps, Kvaløya, Kåfjord, Uløya, Ringvassøya, and other secluded spots ideal for ski touring. One thing is certain: our experienced guides will lead you to the best skiing terrain! After each day of skiing, relax with après-ski gatherings by the bonfire on deck. In the evenings, unwind in our onboard spa: enjoy the sauna below deck or soak in the hot tubs above. Feeling brave? Take a refreshing dip in the Arctic ocean between sauna sessions! A delicious three-course dinner will be served each evening, either inside the cozy cabin or outdoors, depending on the weather.

Training and Preparation:

To get the most out of this trip, participants benefit from being familiar with their ski touring equipment. Just as important as good skiing skills is the ability to handle long days in the mountain for three or four consecutive days. Make sure to go on some long days in the mountain before the trip.

Avalanche safety equipment is mandatory for each participant.

Accommodation and Meals:

We stay on a comfortable boat with excellent facilities. Accommodations are double-bed cabins. If you are traveling alone, you will get your own cabin.

There is a private shower and toilet in each cabin.

We provide a hearty breakfast, prepare packed lunches for our excursions, and serve delicious 3-course dinners in the evening.

The alcoholic beverages must be purchased on the boat due to the liquor license.

Other Information:

Fishing equipment is available on the boat if you wish to try your luck at fishing.

As all equipment is on board the boat at all times, it's advisable to limit your luggage to one bag for skis, one bag for clothes and gear, and one daypack for excursions. Please pack in a bag or backpack.

Your daypack should have enough space for clothing, food, drinks, and avalanche safety equipment.

The extent of mobile phone coverage will vary during the trip.
