Magnus Hendis
Magnus has been guiding for Norrøna Adventure for more than 10 years, and since 2017 he has been working full time in the office as head of guides and expeditions.
Magnus has been guiding for Norrøna Adventure for over 10 years, and since 2017 he has worked full time in the office as "Guide- and expedition manager". He has a master's degree from the Norwegian School of Sport Science with a specialization in Outdoor Life Leadership, and he has studied Development Studies at Oslo University College. In connection with his studies, he has done fieldwork in both Tanzania and Uganda with a focus on mountain tourism on Kilimanjaro, and in the Rwenzori Mountains. Magnus is a certified Climbing Instructor, and Approved Nature Guide through the Norwegian Nature Guide Association.
In 2007, he backpacked around South America for 8 months, including trekking in Torres del Paine and around El Chalten, climbing Pequeno Alpamayo, Cabeza del Condor and Illimani in Bolivia, and Aconcagua in Argentina. He walked the Salkantay route to Macchu Picchu, and explored the Galapagos. Magnus also travels a lot in his free time, often out climbing, skiing, kayaking or cycling.
Magnus is a tour leader on Aconcagua, Kilimanjaro, Everest BC / Island Peak, Annapurna Sanctuary, High mountains in Bolivia, Kayaking in Greenland, and various mountain hikes and climbs in Norway.
Where did you grow up?
In Hedalen, a village in the southwest part of Valdres, Norway.
Where do you call home at the moment?
I have lived in Oslo for many years now, and I still enjoy it.
Activities
Cross-country skiing, running, cycling, trail biking, ski touring, and climbing.
When did you join the Norrøna family?
You could say 1998, when I invested in my first Norrøna Trollveggen Gore-Tex ski outfit. I started guiding in 2011.
Which Norrøna product is your favorite at the moment?
The Falketind Thermo 60 Hood is a perfect all-round jacket.
What do you always bring in your backpack?
Chocolate!
What do you do in your daily life to reduce your CO2 footprint?
I grew up learning to take care of things and use clothes and products until they were completely worn out. I definitely can’t claim to be a trendsetter.
What is your favorite place in the world?
I really love South America after spending a lot of time there, but long cross-country ski trips in Nordmarka are also amazing.
What kind of advice would you give a 10 year old version of yourself?
Don't take life too seriously – have fun!
What is your hobbies/what do you like spending the time on outside work and the outdoor activities?
Photography. And I also relax by enjoying good music.
What is your hidden talent?
I spent a year in a jazz program after high school, but I wouldn't exactly call myself a jazz trumpet talent.
If you could choose a super power, what would it be and why?
I don't long for any superpowers in everyday life, but I hope to stay healthy and active until I pass away swiftly when I'm between 85 and 95 years old.
