Jostein is happiest in the great outdoors and off the grid. Ever since he was young, he has spent his life exploring nature on skis, on foot, in a kayak, or under sail. This curiosity has taken him far from home: he has spent six weeks on a balsa wood raft crossing the Pacific Ocean with the Kon-Tiki 2 expedition, summited peaks over 20,000 feet (6,000 meters) in Bolivia, and done ski expeditions on Svalbard. Additionally, he has crossed the Greenland ice sheet twice—the most recent time serving as the head guide and expedition leader.

Jostein holds a bachelor’s degree in outdoor recreation and nature guiding from Volda University College, is a certified Norwegian Nature Guide (NNGF), and is a trained secondary school teacher. He works as an avalanche, ski, and kayak instructor and currently serves as the President of the Norwegian Nature Guide Association (NNGF). Despite these accolades, what he loves most is the simple life: a great day outdoors with good people, no matter the weather. Whether spending the night in a tent, a hammock, a snow cave, or under the open sky, he is always in his element—and he does his absolute best to ensure that you are, too.
