Ivar Hoel

Ivar is a cheerful, happy and experienced guide and outdoor instructor who loves all kinds of nature- and outdoor activities. He is one of the "old-timers" at Norrøna Hvitserk and guided his first trip to Aconcagua back in 2000.

He has also guided multiple trips to Elbrus, Kilimanjaro, Mt. McKinley (Denali), Everest Base Camp, and Island Peak. He has led ski expeditions across the Greenland ice sheet, Baffin Island, and Finnmarksvidda, as well as served as equipment- and guide manager in the office in the earlier days.

Ivar has paddled 1,300 km by canoe through the tundra in Canada’s Northwest Territories with his father, traversed Jostedalsbreen, climbed alpine peaks in Bolivia and Peru, been close to reaching 8,000 meter peaks in Tibet, spent two seasons as a ski bum in Fernie, Canada, and climbed El Capitan in Yosemite several times.

He is a certified glacier instructor, avalanche instructor, Level 2 Telemark coach, sea kayaking activity leader, and holds a Master’s degree in Outdoor Studies from the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences. Ivar has previously worked for many years at Sportsnett and Piteraq, served as a safety officer in the North Sea, been a member of the Langfjella Alpine Rescue Team, and eventually became an office worker in a government position when family life took priority.

Now, Ivar has returned to guiding and looks forward to turning breathtaking views into deep insights—while sharing laughter and adventure with Norrøna Hvitserk’s amazing participants.
