Giovanni Mattiello

For Giovanni, mountain bike is made up by two words. One is mountain, the other is bike. He likes to put a stronger accent in the first one, prioritizing the adventure factor. The bike is just one of the ways he has to live his adventures, but also his favorite.

Starting out in the endless playground of the Dolomites, he has spent recent years taking his bike to the highest rideable mountains in the world, including epic ascents of Cerro Mercedario (6,770m) and Kilimanjaro (5,895m). Today, he seamlessly merges his mountain guiding career with professional content creation. Driven by a passion for capturing the perfect shot, he routinely wakes up before dawn—and sometimes skips sleep entirely—just to stand on a summit in time for sunrise, leveraging the dramatic low light to make his imagery truly spectacular. Yet for him, the summit is only half the story; once an expedition goal is reached, the journey always continues into the local territory, dedicated to discovering natural wonders, immersing in the culture, and giving back through volunteer activities.

Where did you grow up?
In a very small town at the base of the prealps, surrounded by woods. Close to Bassano del Grappa, Veneto, Italy.

What do you call home nowdays?
Still the same place, but in a wider way, Dolomites included!

Activities
Mountain biking, mountaineering, skitouring, canyoning, hiking, climbing.

When did you joined the Norrøna Adventure family?
2026

Which Norrøna product is your current favourite?
My favourite is the one that I don't wear often, because here at home is too warm. So the Trollveggen 800down hood, because it means that I'm doing something special, probably in high altitude!

What do you always carry in your backpack?
When it's time to thing big, there is no place for inconvenience. So safety kit, quality clothes equipment, spare parts for the bike. And always something to record well everything: camera and action camera.

What do you actively do in everyday life to cut down on your CO2 footprint?
I don't support to waste things: food, water, clothes, objects, everything.
So I don't buy more that I need, I try to fix, recycle and if I find something that is not in his place, like garbage in the mountains, I pick it up and bring down with me. I also try to use the bike as much as I can instead of the car.

What is your favourite place in the world?
There are too many places that I still missing to see. I would say home, the Dolomites, but just because I had the opportunity to discover they're secrets. There are some places in the world that are really pieces of art. Rugged mountains, streams and lakes, wild nature: that's what I need to fall in love with a place.

What advice would you give to a 10-year-old version of yourself?
Be yourself!
