Amalie Dalhaug Halleland

Amalie is from Bergen, and it shows in many ways - for her, most weather is good weather (as the Norwegian saying goes: “There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing”). She is a trained Arctic Nature Guide in Svalbard and leads, among other things, our ski tours in Spitsbergen.

In recent years, Amalie has spent more and more time in the North and previously studied Arctic outdoor life and nature guiding at ANG in Longyearbyen, Svalbard. There, like many before her, she was captivated by the flat plains and the cold sunsets. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Arctic Outdoor Life & Nature Guiding from UiT, as well as a Practical Pedagogical Education from USN. Her experience includes long ski trips in Svalbard and Finnmark, crossing Norway lengthwise (Norge på langs), Red Cross first aid training and sailing. She is also a certified NPF "Aktivitetsleder" - kayak instructor.

Where did you grow up?
In Bergen, on Norway's west coast.

Where do you call home at the moment?
I live in Longyearbyen, Svalbard.

Activities
My favorite outdoor activity is going on long ski trips with a sled and a tent.

When did you join the Norrøna family?
I guided my first ski trip for Norrøna in the spring of 2024, but started my internship placement from ANG in the spring of 2022.

Which Norrøna product is your favorite at the moment?
The Femund cotton jacket and an old version of the Trollveggen bib!

What do you always bring in your backpack?
A rope attached to the sled :) and a cup of coffee.

What do you do in your daily life to reduce your CO2 footprint?
I don’t eat meat, except for animals I hunt myself, and I try to repair my clothes and gear and buy second-hand.

What is your favorite place in the world?
The Atomfjella Mountains on Spitsbergen.

What kind of advice would you give a 10 year old version of yourself?
If I had the chance to talk to myself as a 10-year-old, I would have asked her what dreams she had, what she thought about the world, the adults, and those in power. I would have listened, cheered her on, and maybe challenged her a little on her overly certain answers. I don’t think she would have been very receptive to advice. If I were to say anything, it would be that it’s good to give yourself the space to not be perfect, because being perfect is rarely sustainable, even if it’s in order to save the world.

What is your hobbies/what do you like spending the time on outside work and the outdoor activities?
I have two great passions outside of work and my outdoor life. One is politics, and the other is the sports club Brann.

What is your hidden talent?
I know almost all of the supporter songs for Brann’s soccer team.

If you could choose a super power, what would it be and why?
To be able to stretch like Elastigirl in The Incredibles, so I can easily hang drysuits and reach things that are high up.
