Hiking, Biking and Kayaking in the Norwegian Fjords

Multi-activity tour in beautiful Norwegian nature

From USD 2906

If you are looking for a trip with varied activities in a varied landscape, this is the trip for you. At Hardangervidda, we visit Hardangerjøkulen before the next day we cycle Rallarvegen all the way down to Flåm. With kayaks we paddle the Aurlandsfjorden and the Nærøyfjorden before hiking Prest on the last day. A worthy end to a fantastic trip.

Highlights

  • Experience historic Finse
  • Hike on Hardangerjøkulen Glacier
  • Bike Rallarvegen from Finse to Flåm
  • Overnight kayak trip on Aurladsfjord and Nærøyfjord
  • Hike to Prest for a fantastic view of the Aurlandsfjord

Join us on a week-long trip full of activities and experiences in the beautiful west country. On foot, on the bicycle seat and by kayak, we experience high mountains, fjord arms, waterfalls and idyllic towns. The tour starts at Finse on Hardangervidda before ending six days later in Flåm at the innermost part of the Aurlandsfjord.

First up on the trip is glacier hiking on Hardangerjøkulen. This majestic glacier is one of Hardangervidda's most important attractions. We then hop on the bike seat for the trip from Finse to Flåm on the historic Rallarvegen. Observe the terrain that changes from a cool expanse to a dramatic fjord landscape where we work our way down 1,700 meters in just a couple of hours. From Flåm we set out on a two-day kayak trip with Gudvangen as our destination. We paddle because of the impressive waterfalls, isolated settlements, and wild nature.

The narrow Nærøyfjord is a branch of the huge Sognefjord, and with its 18 kilometers, a maximum depth of 500 meters, and only 250 meters wide at its narrowest, it is not without reason that this fjord is on UNESCO's World Heritage List. Last but not least, we visit Prest, a rock formation with a magnificent view of the fjords and the western Norwegian natural landscape.

This tour will undoubtedly take your breath away - every single day!

Day 2:Hike on Hardangerjøkulen Glacier

The Hardangerjøkulen is one of Norway's largest glaciers. After eating a good breakfast and packing a lunch at the hotel, it's time to get out. The trip to and from the glacier takes about two hours each way, and provides a panoramic view of the area around us. Our skilled guides will help us with everything from crampons to helmets, harnesses, ice axes and ropes when we arrive at the glacier. Together we will explore this spectacular landscape of snow and ice, and discover both deep cracks and historical treats. Back home at Finse, we enjoy a tasty dinner in the hotel's restaurant.

Day 3:Bike Rallarvegen

The Rallarvegen was built at the same time as the Bergen Railway, just over 100 years ago. Today, the ride along the traffic-free construction road is Norway's most famous bike ride. This spectacular cycle ride consists of sections with some exposed sections, gravel and some paved road. Along the way, we pass the Hardangerjøkulen and follow the changing landscape where we pass mountain lakes and majestic waterfalls before continuing towards the descent of 1,400 meters to Flåm, by the Sognefjord. On the way down we find a nice place to enjoy the packed lunch, take a rest and take some photos. The last part of the trip is along the famous Flåm Railway, considered one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world. In Flåm, we deliver our bikes and are transported a short distance to the cozy town of Aurland. Here we will stay in a rustic guest house by the fjord. Dinner tonight is served in the hotel's restaurant. In some cases, there will be too much snow at the beginning of the bike ride. In such a scenario, we take the train for the first part, and then cycle the last part from Hallingskeid to Flåm (1200 meter descent).

Day 4-5:Overnight kayak trip on the fjord

A two-day kayak trip in the spectacular Nærøyfjord awaits us! We explore the beautiful fjord in stable, double kayaks. The trip takes us from Flåm out to the Aurlandsfjord and all the way to Gudvangen on the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord. We pass landscapes carved by glaciers, and see waterfalls plunging off the steep mountain sides. We will also paddle through the small village of Undredal, which is home to around 70 people and 500 goats. The small place is famous for its production of goat cheese, and if we have time, we will taste the cheese produced here. If we are lucky, it is also possible that we will spot seals, eagles, otters or porpoises along the way. The accommodation during the journey is carried out in a tent. All necessary equipment is included (also wetsuits and waterproof packing bags). If you do not have your own sleeping bag and sleeping mat, it is possible to rent this.

Day 6:Hike to Prest and end of trip

Today we get the opportunity to see the Aurlandsfjorden from above! After breakfast, we drive up the steep mountain side towards our destination for the day, the mountain Prest (1363 m above sea level). Parts of the path are steep, but we guarantee that the experience at the top is worth it. The view is nothing short of spectacular, and in clear weather we can see the mountain peaks around us, see how the national tourist road winds its way over the mountain, and see how the fjord stretches out into the horizon. In other words, a spectacular spectacle. The trip ends in time for the last departure with the Flåmsbanen to Oslo, Bergen and Voss. We recommend that all participants book the trip on these connections, and not with those who have an earlier departure time. Get in touch if you need help or have any questions regarding this.
