Hiking in the Pyrenees

Sharp peaks, green fields and blue lakes

From USD 2837 Flight included
From USD 2173 Flight not included

The Pyrenees is the name of the mountain range that divides France and Spain. On this week long trip we walk large parts of the "Carros de Foc" route in the Aigüestortes National Park, on the Spanish side of the mountains. We start the tour in the lovely mountain village of Espot and walk straight from the front steps of the hotel into the beautiful national park. We experience beautiful nature, fantastic views and real mountain huts with delicious food.

Høydepunkter

  • Aigüestortes National Park
  • The beautiful nature of the Pyreneenes
  • Peaks with spektacular views
  • Blue lakes of all sizes
  • Espot og Boì villages
  • Rich wildlife
  • Sitges

The Pyrenees are beautiful, wild and diverse. Over the course of five days, we wander through a landscape that changes every time you look over a new mountain pass. Here you find sharp peaks and soft green mountain sides. Lazy, sleepy rivers, open grasslands, beautiful woodlands and mountain peaks with views as far as the eye can see. Inside the national park we find 640 azure lakes and ponds where the water is so clear that you can see the fish swimming in the depths with the naked eye. There is also a rich wildlife in the national park. If we are lucky we can meet the marmot, a rodent that can only be found in high mountain areas, or a mountain goat or two that often licks salt off rocks in the hillside at dawn. Perhaps we will catch a glimpse of an eagle or a vulture soaring above our heads looking for their meal of the day.

We hike from hut to hut, and have a break on day 4 where we go down to the village of Boì and stay in a hotel, which will be a nice change from our mountain dormitories. Along the route there are several peaks you can climb, or you can take an extra long break in the grass instead. We finish the trip with a relaxing stay at the beach and enjoy delicious tapas in cozy Sitges.

Take a look at Hannes blog, she has guided this trip many times :)

Day 3:Saboredo to Colomers (2150 masl)

We start the day by walking calmly and leisurely up towards the Sendrosa pass at 2450 metres above sea level. From here we have the opportunity to take the trip up Sendrosa peak, if the conditions allow it that day. From here there is a great view to both the French and Spanish part of the Pyrenees. If you would rather take an extra long break in the pass, that is totally possible. We continue down the "Coret de Cloto" and down to the Colomers lake. If time allows, we will walk around the lake and to the cabin Colomers, which is located on the north-west side of the lake, 2150 m above sea level.

Physical level

Some segments of the journey may prove challenging. It's essential to possess a solid level of fitness prior to departure. Persistence will be required in reaching the trip's goal.

Comfort level

3/6 Comfort

Simple accommodations, such as cabins or guesthouses, often with multi-bed rooms. Sometimes with bunk beds and often with a shared bathroom.

Risk level

3/6 Risk

Activities/trips with some risk. Certain incidents may occur, and they may be of such a nature that they may require professional help.

Traning and Preparations

This is an easy to moderately demanding trip, with daily hikes in occasionally hilly terrain lasting up to eight hours. We have plenty of time on the stages, and we hike at a leisurely pace enjoying nature along the way. On three of the days, we can climb mountain peaks, or choose to wait and enjoy life in the sun instead. We carry with us what we need for 4 nights on tour and we leave the rest of the luggage at the hotel in Espot. You should be used to walking and in normal good physical shape to participate. Longer hikes in the fields, "hut to hut" or tent trips in the mountains are good rechargers.

Visas, Vaccinations and Health

Before embarking on our journey together, we kindly remind all tour participants to check their respective country's visa status and vaccination requirements. Ensuring your travel documents are in order is a crucial step in guaranteeing a smooth and hassle-free adventure.

If you are over 67, you should have a thorough medical check-up before your trip. Make your doctor aware that this is a trip involving physical exertion and moving off the beaten track.

It is important that you fill in all parts of the registration form (especially where we ask for information about health and allergies), and let us know if there is anything we need to be aware of before and during the trip. Relevant health information that may have an impact on the tour must also be communicated to the guide at the start of the tour. NOTE - If you are on regular medication, have known allergies or the like, you must always have your personal medication with you.

Additional Information

In Espot, Boi and Sitges we spend the night in hotels with twin rooms. Inside the national park we stay in mountain huts with a simpler standard, here there are dormitories, in some places only us, in others we may have to share with other hikers. All the cabins are equipped with blankets (in some cases duvets) and we only need a sleeping liner, but if you know you get cold easily, you can bring a thin summer sleeping bag. Bring earplugs if you know you need them.

It is not always easy to get hold of gluten-free wholemeal bread, lactose-free alternatives or to accommodate other dietary requirements.  Enter in the registration form if you have allergies and we will try to accommodate as best we can. We would still recommend that those who have special food needs (and those who need extra nutrition for their packed lunch) bring some alternatives in the form of, for example, a pack of crackers, energy bars or similar that you know you can eat.

Equipment list

This list is intended as a guideline, so that we have what we need regardless of the weather we get on the trip. Remember that you can also get used hiking equipment that works perfectly.
